A Web-Log or blog is really a journal that’s obtainable on the internet.
But can you really, as an ordinary person, make money from a blog. I think so, hence this blog, 3 powerful ways to Profit from your blog.
The activity of updating a blog, usually on a daily to weekly basis, a diary is named “Blogging” and somebody who regularly writes that diary/blog is known as a “Blogger”.
Blogger is also the name of a platform that is home to many blogs. I still have a blog on there from years ago and surprisingly it still gets traffic despite how rarely I blog on it now. It is free to use and easy to set up.
- Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. The blogs are hosted by Google and generally accessed from a subdomain of blogspot.com. Blogs can also be served from a custom domain owned by the user (like www.example.com) by using DNS facilities to direct a domain to Google’s servers. A user can have up to 100 blogs per account.
- Up until May 1, 2010, Blogger also allowed users to publish blogs to their own web hosting server, via FTP. All such blogs had to be changed to either use a blogspot.com subdomain, or point their own domain to Google’s servers through DNS.
There we have the basics of blogging.
Who blogs and Why?
We do hear a lot about bloggers nowadays and everyone wants to be a well known/famous blogger. Sometimes the ‘well knowns’ are called Influencers too because they have such an effect on people’s habits, buying and otherwise.
So who does blog?
Pretty much every business online. Nowadays people look for answers to problems online. They are searching for a solution because they don’t know how to fix the problem. As bloggers our job is to help them find a solution. Sometimes it might be something we recommend or we send them to someone else who can help.
Business is no longer like the past where it was push sales at all cost, even if it alienated the customer. Personally I don’t like pushy sales people, but I do like to help people. If I am affiliated with a good product that I know can help I will offer it as a suggestion but also often suggest the person does further research before making a decision. If I don’t know of a solution after being asked, I will do some further research to help point the person in the right direction.
Now the why?
Most people do research first on anything they intend to buy and where would they do that? The internet of course with its diversity of knowledge available to all. So business owners blog to provide solutions to customers and to help bring those customers to them. Regular visitors are called traffic. Any site needs traffic and writing a blog means using words that people search for. Also known as keywords.
Key words and phrases are used to encourage Google to give a high ranking to the site. Obviously ranking on page one is best because then your site is amongst the first they will see after putting in a search term.
The 3 Powerful Ways to Profit from your Blog
That’s rather obvious I suppose but without articles or posts, there is no blog. They can’t just a be waffle that goes nowhere, they have to have a purpose. A good quality blog article/post is researched and the key words and phrases are researched thoroughly for Search Engine Optimisation or SEO as it is more commonly known. You have blogs that solve problems or answer commonly asked questions.
Reviews focus on one item or a few different items as a comparison. These are popular with people looking to buy something in particular. They also tend to rank well if done properly.
In the article there will be links added that are affiliate links or go to other blogs on your website and often there will be some outside links to information you gathered from an authority website blog. Affiliate links if used by your customer will bring in commissions. It doesn’t cost the customer any more but it helps you.
Writing “Product Reviews”
Could be an excellent way to benefit from your blog.
You select similar items from a company or companies you are affiliated. Then you research the items, check out customer reviews and go from there, writing up the items.
You also give your own personal opinion, not necessarily going for the most expensive. Say what you honestly think. Your readers will appreciate that.
This is a win win situation as the customer is clearly looking for those or a similar items.
Nobody likes to be overly sold to, but giving them your insight on a Product and/or Service that would solve their problem is helping rather than pushing something at them.
“Text Ad Programs”
Google Adsense can be applied to for adverts on your blog. They can be pop ups, adverts in inside an actual post or adverts in the sidebars or headers and/or footers. You do need to keep a close eye on these as they can slow your site down if overloaded with ads, they can also become intrusive and put people off.
You can include your own adverts with affiliate links in them. Or have a page of resources with a variety of items your readers might find useful.
Other companies will happily pay for Pay Per Click like Google Adsense and usually pay a higher rate. So it is worth looking around first. I tried Google Adsense bit I didn’t have the time to really learn about it properly so ended up with too many adverts and then removed them all. Years ago I had it on my original blog and it made nearly £15.00 when I was no longer posting on that blog.
So its worth looking into it properly before setting up Google ads.
A few other Affiliate Companies
Clickbank is a popular platform to be an affiliate for and they have a huge variety of goods. It is easy to get accepted by them then you can choose what you want to advertise and will go with your site niche/topic. Any of those could be used for adverts.
There is also a company I signed up to that has plug ins you can add to your website to add a lot of clickbank products without any effort. It is called CBPROADS
It’s worth checking out to see what you think. If you do pay for the Pro lifetime version its a one off payment which is good. You can join for free to be an affiliate though.
